Hemp farming in Thailand

Thai authorities should seriously look into the the feasibly of allowing hemp to be grown by Thai farmers. Below are listed some reasons. . . .

1.  Currently, hemp is legally grown in several countries worldwide.  China and eastern Europe are the top exporters.

2.  Hemp has been a utilitarian crop for centuries. 

3.  Although closely related to marijuana (they're both in the cannabis family), hemp is not a drug.  Seed strains have been developed that yield less than 0.3% THC (the drug part of marijuana).  One would have to smoke about five kilos of hemp to get a little buzz (and a giant headache).  Similarly, potatoes, tomatoes and belladonna are all in the deadly nightshade family, yet only belladonna could be called a drug.

4.  The uses for hemp fall into three basic categories; seed, fiber, and pulp. The seed is edible, nutritious and also utilitarian.  The fiber has many uses, including paper, rope, strong & lightweight building boards.  Within hemp stalks, there is a pulp which also has uses, such as bio-degradable plastic.   The whole plant can be used as a low-cost burning fuel.  For more details, see http://hemphasis.com/indisty1.htm

5.  Hemp gives high yields on poor soils.  The planting methods are different, depending on whether one is growing for seed (moderately spaced), or fiber/pulp (closely spaced).  It is well suited for rotation with other crops.
