Bangkok Post book review (May 12, 2006):   "Out of California, Ken Albertsen moved to Chiang Rai in 1998 and took up the pen. Lali's Passage is followed by 600 Thai Words Taken From English. At 10cm x 26cm, it is longer and narrower than standard paperbacks. To be sure we are given the 600 words in sports, plants and animals, food and restaurants, clothing, home, music, building, places, geography, science, medicine, technology, work, tourism, vehicles,
government, religion, banking, out on the town, expressions and conversation.

They are in English, Thai and syllables as locals speak them. What Albertsen did was to add a Thai 101 primer..., and we are given lists of commonly used words and phrases in English, Thai and correct pronunciation.

There are pages on the Thai alphabet, how and why the letters follow certain orders in words, the rules for inflection in speech, problems with transliteration, ways of speaking to royalty and monks, male and female phrases.

Advice on tipping, cartoons to exemplify chapters, how locals are likely to reply to tourists' questions round out the book. The title notwithstanding, it contains a bit of everything to give it substance."
